A year later and you have come full circle. Many of you have told me that the year just flew by.
Each of you have been successful in the completion of your licensing exam and are now a "professional". In the year 2009, the DRSHD had graduates from all four undergraduate programs, cosmetology, esthetics, manicuring and instructor training. At graduation, all were placed in a salon/spa of choice. Welcome to DRSHD, Felicia Hunt, your are our "newbie" instructor. You bring a lot of professional experience and hands on skills to our campus.
Now the hard work really begins, as you know. You have to be on the mark every day. You were trained to think like a professional and now is the time to put those thoughts into action. Go for it! Take the many hours of practice that you completed and add to the time needed to perfect your craft. Be patient as your clientele grows. Always rememeber that it is all about the "client". Listen to their needs and use your "craft" to polish their hair, skin and nails.
When the staff and I think of your year in school, we understand your excitement and fear to be the "low man on the ladder". Find a mentor where you have chosen to work, be part of the team, do the very best that you can each day and be thankful for the time that your employer spends with you during your apprenticeship programs. Do not limt you creativity, break out of the box you have been in these past months.
I recently read an article that defined five tips to stay successful and motivated. I would like to share them with the class of 2009. They are:
# 1. You career is what you make it.
#2. Money should never be your single motivation.
#3. Do not count on others to do your work.
#4. Share your motivation.
#5. Stay up to date in your chosen field.
As you know, I firmly believe, we are what we think. I wish you all very positve thoughts and tons of positive enthusiasm. Be proud of yourself. You did the deed. And very well done at that.
For the class of 2009, your cummulative licensing exam score was 94%. In my gradebook that is a big fat A! Congrats...to each and every one of you!
